It is an ecdysosome receptor agonist, mimicking the molting hormone ecdysosome and inducing premature molting. Spinetoram is an active ingredient that acts by contact and ingestion in insects; in plants, it acts by contact and translaminar means. It is an allosteric modulator of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR)-Site I; it allosterically activates nAChRs, causing hyperexcitation of the nervous system. Acetylcholine is the main excitatory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system in insects.
